Dr Aaron Edwards has been a Senior Lecturer in Defence and International Affairs at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst since 2008.

He teaches International Security Studies and is a leading expert on Irregular Warfare, Military Strategy and Covert Action.

Aaron has a keen interest in Twentieth Century wars and has visited battlefields in Europe, North Africa, Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East and South East Asia. He has also deployed in support of UK military operations in Iraq and has taught courses for the armed forces of over 25 countries worldwide.

He is a prolific author and his books include: Mad Mitch’s Tribal Law: Aden and the End of Empire (Penguin Random House, 2014), War: A Beginner’s Guide (Oneworld Publications, 2016), Strategy in War and Peace (Edinburgh University Press, 2017), UVF: Behind the Mask (Merrion Press, 2017) and Agents of Influence: Britain’s Secret Intelligence War Against the IRA (Merrion Press, 2021). He is currently researching and writing a new book on British Intelligence and insurgencies during the Cold War.

As well as his academic background, Aaron has been a journalist and has provided commentary on security and military matters for the BBC, RTE and Vice News and his work has featured in newspapers in the UK and Ireland.

His Battlefield Tour expertise includes the Royal Ulster Rifles and D-Day Landings; the Malayan Emergency, 1948-60; Cyprus Revolt, 1955-60; the Vietnam War, 1963-75; and the Northern Ireland Troubles, 1969-2007.
